Anbody But Bush

If I were reading/watching the news in a complete vacuum, I would be rather thrilled to see the President of the United States make a hush-hush visit to Iraq for a surprise dinner with the troops. I'm sure it was a morale boost for the men and women who got to see him. As cynical about Bush as I am, my first reaction on hearing about it was "well, that's the first presidential thing he's done in at least a year and half!" But we don't live in a vacuum and it only took me a second to realize that this is, sadly, mostly about the 2004 Campaign. If you're on the fence about re-electing our dear President, read this: "In 2004, Anybody But Bush" I'm happy; I have a new slogan -- ABB! ABB!

TODAY'S MILLINISM

Well, the spectators were out in groves that day..

Indeed. Some people can say so much with one word.

Since it's been, yikes! two months since I updated, all you lasagne garden fans (have you noticed that sometimes I spell lasagna with an "a" and sometimes I spell it with an "e"? I'm undecided) will be happy to know that I managed to clean up my lasagne garden before any significant snowfall. I ended up with a real tangle of tomato plants because I hated to cut short any ripening I could eke out at the end of the season. But I ended up with a good number of nice ripe tomatoes and about half a bushel of green ones.

I figured that the green tomatoes weren't going to amount to much (Fried Green Tomatoes? Tried it -- no thanks), but they have been steadily ripening and I keep using them. I canned some, made some into fresh salsa, and I still have some left that I'm thinking of drying. As sliced, raw tomatoes, they leave something to be desired. A little on the mealy side, although tasty still.

So much for the garden report. I still can't believe I have garden tomatoes at the end of November.
